Each person with
sensitive teeth knows the agonies to which it binds. Even a sip of a cold or
hot drink can cause a very unpleasant feeling. Scientists in Taiwan intend to
treat sensitive teeth with ... gold.
Tooth sensitivity is
caused by microscopic damage to the enamel. Through these tiny cracks external
stimuli reach the innervation of the tooth, causing pain.
Nanotechnologists in
Taiwan decided to seal them with gold. To do this, they use the precious metal
particles with diameter of only 30 nanometers (a nanometer is a billionth of a
meter). Gold particles fill the slits in the enamel and the tooth again loses
contact with the external environment.
Gold seals are
captured using laser light. According to Taiwan scientists, the development of
their method is already in a very advanced stage. In a year or two it will be
possible to check the effectiveness of gold seals on teeth on live patients.
